Poland’s Besatt returns with their tenth studio album titled Anticross which was released on September 1st through Zero Dimensional Records. Coming full force with their signature black metal style, this album is the three year wait we have been waiting for since Nine Sins, released in 2014. With strong lyrical themes of Satanism, Anti-Christianity and occultism, this album is no different than that of any true and raw black metal release until first listen. Unlike other black metal albums, this album features technical riffs, that essence of 90s wave of raw black metal power, and instrumental intricacies unheard of in many black metal releases. Each instrument is doing something different in the tracks that makes it not blend into a big mush of mediocrity but truly makes each instrument stand out and sound like something new.
The track Engraved Face stands out with the chorus at the end which breathes new life into the black metal realm. The instruments throughout the album intricately play something different from another to build layers of harmony. The strong points of this album, definitely the technicality behind the guitars and difference between the instrumentals which bring that love for true black metal back to any fan that may have been burnt out on all the black metal releases that came out this year. Overall, this album is a very strong, very heavy and very raw black metal release but also stands out with all the layers beneath it all that with each listen, something always stands out differently. If you are a fan of Marduk, Behexen, and Gorgoroth, then this album is perfect for you. - Metal Purgatory Media
