Just one year after their third album "Kitab Al Awthan" , the Saudi Arabians AL-NAMROOD are already releasing a new EP. However, there is no completely new music to be heard: on an EP limited to 250 copies that comes in a stylish metal box, AL-NAMROOD are releasing new versions of their first pieces five years after the band was founded.
Spoiled by the soft sound of its predecessor “Kitab Al Wathan”, the very harsh sound of “Jaish AlNamrood” is of course immediately noticeable: More highs in the mix, a distorted sound that sometimes sounds as if it were being overdriven and that much more on the Black- Metal-screaming-oriented vocals by Learza create a raw black metal feeling. Since the material is also much harder than the most recently published pieces, this is entirely appropriate.
If you compare the songs with the originally published versions, a blatant leap in terms of sound quality becomes clear. This way the compositions come into their own: rabid melodies, played on different instruments, meet tribal percussions and black metal riffing. The fact that this creates some dissonance, at least for western ears, can be even less hidden in the clearer sound than in the original, washed-out sound.
For fans of the band, the EP " Jaish AlNamrood" is a must - as a strictly limited collector's item, but also as an exciting look into the world of early AL-NAMROOD, which was so far in the fog due to the weak sound of the first releases. - Metal1.Info
