Cold Body Radiation are are a post/shoegaze-black metal one-man project from the Netherlands. Most one-man bands aren't very good because of the single vision of its creator, Cold Body Radiation are an exception to this rule. On "The Great White Emptiness" they sound like a full-fledged band, compositionally. The opening track 'Emission' opens with atmospheric drumming, light piano melodies, laidback bass lines and some restrained guitarplaying. In all this is reminiscent of Cynic and Atheist's "Elements". The use of synthesizers and effects is similar to British alt rock band Coldplay, particularly their "X&Y" album. The morose piano melodies through out the album strength its more lighter and gentler moments. "The Great White Emptiness" is an instrumental album first and vocals are only of secondary importance. The production emphasizes this by putting the instruments front and center, and the vocals somewhere in the back. The vocals themselves are typical rasps and as such not very special or remarkable. While what Cold Body Radiation does is hardly new, it has been some time since this was last done so convincingly. "The Great White Depression" comes highly recommended for those who like their black metal more atmospheric, introverted and sophisticated. - Masterful Magazine
